What is latex spraying?
With latex spraying we apply wall paint with an airless spray unit instead of a roller. The paint hits the wall as a fine mist under high pressure and flows out into a smooth, even layer. You see no roller texture and no joins, not even in raking light.
It works best in an empty or nearly empty room, because everything that must not be painted gets covered. That is why spraying is the finish of choice for new builds, renovations and a house you have just bought and is still empty.
How we do it
Masking and preparation
Frames, floor, pipes and sockets go under film and tape. Cracks and holes are filled and an absorbent surface gets a primer first, otherwise you see patches in the end result.
Two sprayed coats
With the airless unit we apply two covering coats. Ceiling first, then the walls. The paint dries a few hours between coats; the second coat makes the surface truly even.
Check in raking light
We go over everything with a lamp along the wall. A sprayed coat hides nothing, so what we see, we touch up. Then the masking comes off and we leave the place clean.
What determines the price?
The square metres of wall and ceiling, the surface (fresh plaster, old latex, textured plaster) and how much we have to mask. An empty new-build home is the most economical: little masking, many metres in one go.
Going from a dark to a light colour, or an unevenly absorbing surface, means an extra coat or a primer. You see that in your fixed price, never afterwards.

The details
- Airless spraying
- Paint without air, under high pressure through a fine tip. Gives a closed, even coat.
- Spray latex
- Wall paint with a finer composition than roller latex, made to atomise and flow out smoothly. TODO-MASON: which brand and line we spray as standard.
- Two coats, wet on wet where possible
- The first coat covers, the second evens out. A third over a dark surface.
- Drying time
- Dust-dry after about an hour, recoatable after four to six hours, fully cured after a few days.
- Sheen
- Usually matt (sheen 3 to 5) for walls and ceilings: that hides irregularities best. A lightly washable variant for kitchens and bathrooms.
- Coverage
- About 1 litre per 5 to 7 m² per coat when spraying, more than rolling because the coat is thicker and more even.
- Primer
- On fresh plaster or repaired patches a primer first, otherwise the wall absorbs unevenly and you see it in the colour.
- Masking
- Film and tape on everything that stays: frames, floor, pipes, spotlights. This is most of the work and it decides the end result.
Good to know
Latex spraying is fast: a complete new-build home with walls and ceilings is often done in two to three days. Want colour on one wall? No problem; we mask the colour wall and spray it separately. Already living there? Then we agree per room what has to go and what we cover.

Frequently asked about latex spraying
What is the difference between spraying and rolling?
Sprayed latex is even, without roller texture and without joins. Rolling works in an occupied home with less masking, and is handier for one wall in colour. In an empty house or new build, spraying is faster and smoother.
Can you spray in an occupied home?
Yes, but then we mask more and work room by room. Large furniture to the middle under film, the rest out of the way. At the free visit we work out together what is easiest.
Can you spray in colour too?
Yes. Any RAL or NCS colour. Many people choose white or a warm off-white for ceilings and walls and one accent wall in colour.
How soon can I use the room again?
The same day the paint is dust-dry and you can go in. Wait a few days before hanging pictures and cleaning, then the coat is fully cured.
Do you spray textured ceilings?
Yes, we actually like spraying textured ceilings and walls: a roller does not get into every dimple, a spray does.
What does latex spraying cost per m²?
That depends on the surface, how much we mask and the number of metres. We deliberately give no loose m² rate: after a free visit you get one fixed price for your whole job, paint included.
Also useful: plastering first, the whole new build finished in one go or traditional painting. We work from Leerdam to Rotterdam.
